In this case, the main problem was that the expansion joints were not designed correctly and didn’t have a suitable joint sealant. This problem had caused cracks and severe destruction in band & runway surfaces. All deteriorated concrete sections were repaired with Epoxy grouts. Then the joints walls were cut to achieve standard width and evacuated of any loose particles. A suitable vapor barrier was applied on clean surfaces inside the joints and on the area of 2 meters around the joints. At the end Polyurea NUKOTE –ST was applied as a final Coating and then all of the joints were filled with Polyurea NUKOTE-BG, NUKOTE-ST was chosen as protective flooring because of its anti-slip surface, fastback in service excellent mechanical resistance, strong chemical resistance, and good abrasion resistance. The project was done while the runway was in full service.
